About Menlo Park

Menlo Park is one of the wealthiest and most exclusive neighborhoods in the Bay Area. Median household income surpasses $200,000, and home prices average well over $1 million. Tech giant Facebook is headquartered in the area, and office buildings along the famed Sand Hill Road serve as the home to many of the region’s most well-known venture capital, private equity, and law firms. Stanford University lies immediately south in Palo Alto, and has a considerable positive effect on the area. The thousands of students living in the area, the university’s talented graduates, and the region’s reputation for launching successful startups continually attract businesses to set up shop nearby, making Menlo Park one of the nation’s most dynamic markets.

Retailers are concentrated along El Camino Real in the downtown Menlo Park area, but clusters of retail properties are found along other main thoroughfares in the neighborhood as well. State Route 101 is a primary commuter highway, with several big-box retailers and smaller retail properties centered alongside it. Shops on Sand Hill Road mostly serve the adjacent residential neighborhood and office properties, along with Stanford University just to the south.

Menlo Park and its neighboring areas do not typically see extensive retail development. The availability of retail space in this area is a difficult proposition. Vacancy rates are among the lowest in the San Francisco Peninsula as businesses vie for access to the demographically attractive area.
