About Seaport

The Seaport has emerged as one of the most exciting up-and-coming neighborhoods in greater Boston, and perhaps the entire country. Since only 2010, more than 4.5 million square feet of office space, 3,100 apartment units, and 1,100 hotel rooms have delivered over an area that was once mostly parking lots. These new developments bring a number of amenities to the neighborhood including attractive boutique shops, innovative restaurants, the award-winning Institute of Contemporary Art museum, and the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The area is well served by transit including the MBTA’s Silver Line, a bus rapid transit line, and is walking distance to New England’s largest rail hub: South Station.

Firms from a variety of industries all have found the Seaport attractive. Traditional office users, including law firms, consulting groups and financial institutions all occupy a significant portion of the stock here. Tech firms also have found a home in the Seaport. Amazon will bring 2,000 jobs to the neighborhood in an under-construction building at 111 Harbor Way. The Seaport has specifically become recognized as Boston’s next biotechnology cluster. Foundation Medicine will relocate its headquarters from Cambridge the Seaport after signing a 580,000–square-foot lease at 400 Summer St. Millions of new square feet of life science space is in the planning stage, which promises to transform the neighborhood further in the coming years.
